History of NanJing : The Capital of Six Dynasties

The city of Nanjing was declared a capital in 229CE and is called Ning for short. Situated in the lower reach of the Yangtze River which faces the dangerous section of the Yangtze River to the west and surrounded by the Ningzhen mountain range to the south-east, it has been described to look like a coiling dragon and crouching tiger and as such has been coined with the name of the city with "Bell Mountain of coiling dragon and stone rampart of crouching tiger". Throughout the history of China, there were ten dynasties which established capital here, thus it holds the name of "Capital of Ten Dynasties".
Nanjing is the famous historical and cultural city in China, and is one of the six ancient cities of China.

Nanjing has seen it's fair share of bloodshed throughout history, with notable events such as the Nanjing Massacre, the Nanjing incident and the rape of Nanjing by the Japanese.

However, the Nanjing today has grown to become a top cultural and historical tourist attraction in China.
